A Perfume Bottle recently ignited a bidding war on eBay. The scent bottle attracted a virtual crowd with its unique Art Deco design. (Dated 1923) Before collecting its final eBay (selling) price of $12,000.
The opening bid had started at $750 on March 12, 2009. By the auctions end over 500 visitors clicked to take a closer look at the extraordinary perfume bottle. Ten bidders (collectively) had placed 31 bids before the 10-day auction ended.
According to James Massey, publisher of www.WhatSellsBest.com, a website which provides free list and photos of top selling eBay items. The perfume bottle (sold) appeared to be a Baccarat (glass) design with a moon shaped stopper, and in excellent condition.
Massey stated; “Vintage and antique perfume bottles seem to be in high demand. Earlier this month, an unusual Thomas Webb perfume bottle (dated 1885) shaped like a birds head, ended up fetching $9,600 after having an opening bid of only $1.”
Massey added; “Sometimes owners of rare bottles don’t what they have, or what it’s worth, and end up selling them for pennies on the dollar in a garage sale. It’s too bad, because it’s pretty easy to get a general sense of (monetary) value these days. It usually only takes a few minutes using free online sites.”
