TITUSVILLE, FLORIDA (VIDEO) – CBS reports, two college students found four NASA Space Shuttle flight suits at a Salvation Army thrift store. They paid $1. The suits may fetch $20,000 in an upcoming auction.
FOX 35 reports the central Florida students, Talia Rappa and Skyer Ashworth were shopping at a thrift store closeout sale, where they found the suits marked at 20-cents a piece.
The suits were under a stack of sweaters. In an interview with WKMG News 6, Rappa said. “They were kind of in a weird corner," “He (Skylar) pulled them all out at first, then brought the whole handful over to me.
Reportedly, the American Space Museum, helped identify the suits as space flown, and linked them to astronauts George “Pinky” Nelson, Robert A. Parker, and Charles D. Walker, who flew shuttle missions in the 1980s.
The 20-cent NASA flight suits have been valued by experts at $5,000 each, or $20,000 for the entire collection.
WHY THEY'RE RARE
Less than 600 people have flown into space. From that number, only a small number of space flown items ever slip outside of NASA and/or museums, into private ownership. Those rare items that do, are highly sought by collectors.
