Rare 'Playboy' Magazine Fetches $39k

This rare 'Playboy' magazine featuring Marilyn Monroe, fetched a winning bid of $39,000 in a seven day auction on eBay.

The magazine, was a first edition Playboy with a (Certified Guaranty Company) CGC rating of 9.4, placing it among the best-of-the-best condition wise.

The edition was first published in December, 1953, after being produced by Hugh Hefner in his Hyde Park kitchen (Chicago). The issue was undated, because at the time Hefner was uncertain if there would be a second issue. The magazine originally had a cover price of 50¢, and sold-out in weeks with a reported circulation of 53,991 at the time.
