Bids Soar for Beatles Songs Promo Error

UPDATED – December 11, 2011

Beatles Top Pop Promo Record on eBay

Bidding passed $17,000 for this rare promotional Record with Two Beatles Songs (Love Me Do & P.S. I Love You), and one Unusual Printing Error. (**eBay listing #180766046324)

According to the sellers listing, only 250 copies of the Beatles songs promo were pressed and distributed by Parlophone (UK), as a promotion for DJ's and music journalists in October of 1962. Making next year the records 50th anniversary.

The sellers listing also states; (this record is) "Easily the most important piece of Beatles vinyl in the world today.... If this single hadn't been successful they wouldn't have gone on to record any more material with parlophone... they might have gone into total obscurity and we might have never heard from the Beatles ever again."

The unusual printing error is... Paul McCartney's name was actually misspelled as 'McArtney' on both sides of the record, a detail that could escape the attention of a casual observer, if they weren't looking for it. The auction ended December 10, 2011.
